Since the time I first came to Avalon, four sacred trees have  died, been culled or deliberately hacked down. The first of these was the Holy Thorn tree on Wearyall Hill, this was about five years ago and made the International news pages. But there are other  Ents that weald equally as much magic as the fore mentioned
tree. The Faerie doorway tree that sat at one entrance to the Faerie wood below the Tor. This was an old apple tree that had been struck by lightning and split in two. The two halves creating an entrance to the magical realm and prayers and offerings had to be made to enter. This gateway was closed in a bad storm about three years ago.
The third tree was a Hawthorne tree that stood Guardian over the spot at the base of Bridie;s Mound where the Holy Grail was found, this Ent fell a couple of weeks ago forming a barrier across that sacred pathway. The latest of the honoured trees to go came about this morning as I visited the Egg-stone. At the entrance to the seat of the Faerie High-King was an ancient Elder, the grandmother of trees. A tree where thousands of pilgrims had left prayers and wishes and hundreds of ribbons tied to its branches. Today I came across this fallen Sister hanging over the edge of the Tor, with nothing more than a bramble bush supporting its weight.
It hard to see them go and fall, but we each have our time and make way for the next generation. One doorway closes another opens. We cannot control what nature has planned and we are naive to think we can. But we can miss their energy and healing gifts, bless you tree beings all
